Ballot boxes stolen in Karachi ahead of elections

The police reported that armed robbers stole valuables and three ballot boxes from a polling station at Pakistan Public School in Saudabad. The suspects were able to escape after the theft.

Earlier in the day, Inspector General of Sindh Police (IGP) Riffat Mukhtar instructed all police officials to maintain high alert security and increase patrolling before the general elections scheduled for Feb 8.

“We need to ensure security measures at every level,” said the Sindh provincial police chief during a news briefing in Karachi.

Riffat Mukhtar also urged police officials to enhance communication with intelligence personnel to prevent any unpleasant incidents. Ballot boxes snatched in Karachi on eve of elections
