Karachi: Provincial Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Memon has said that President Asif Zardari has given clear instructions that no leniency will be shown towards criminals or facilitators, regardless of who they are.
According to Express News, important decisions were made in the 21st meeting of the APEX committee in light of President Zardari’s instructions, including crackdowns against drug dealers, action against illegal immigrants, and operations against dacoits and criminal elements.
Speaking to the media after the APEX committee meeting at the Chief Minister’s House, Sharjeel Memon said that dark days have begun for drug dealers, and if they do not stop drug trafficking, they will face severe consequences.
He said that the federal and provincial governments are jointly conducting crackdowns against drug dealers, forming joint teams against drug dealers, and establishing joint check posts in border areas of the province.
Changes are being made in the departments of Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control; strict legislation is being introduced against those who supply drugs in schools and homes. In Sindh, Rangers, police, and Anti-Narcotics Forces are taking action against drug dealers.
He said that identification of illegal immigrants is in progress and their data is being collected; monitoring will be carried out at the places where illegal immigrants take refuge.
Sharjeel Memon said that significant progress has been made in the case of attacks on police officers in Karachi, as it was discovered in the investigation that one of the individuals involved was a teacher at a school. It has been decided that wherever such elements are present, their nefarious intentions will be thwarted.
He said that the President has given clear instructions to the Sindh government that no leniency will be shown towards those facilitating dacoits. In this regard, the policy of the Sindh government is zero tolerance, with strict action being taken in troubled areas and multiple culprits have been apprehended.
The provincial minister said that all institutions and the public are on the same page against street criminals, and the police are taking action against them.
The senior minister said that important decisions were made regarding the display of weapons in the APEX committee meeting, and action will be taken against those who roam around with weapons in large vehicles. No one, no matter how influential, will be allowed to display weapons; agencies enforcing the law will take action starting tomorrow. Anyone who displays weapons without a permit will face strict consequences.
