Islamabad: The Supreme Court has directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to reconsider the determination of bakery items prices.
The case of fixing the prices of bakery items in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was heard in the Supreme Court.
Chief Justice Justice Faiz Issa said that bakery items are not essential commodities, and determining the prices of essential items is understandable, but not bakery items.
Justice Faiz Issa asked the Additional Advocate General if there is an alternative to cake, to which the Additional Advocate General replied that there is no alternative to cake.
Chief Justice said that if cake pastries are being sold at a high price, then let them be. He also said that should the price of courts and tea also be determined by lawyers?
During the hearing, the bakery owner’s lawyer said that the price of essential items is determined daily and items prepared in bakeries are available six months later.
In response, Justice Athar Minallah remarked that this is a issue of demand and supply, how can the price be determined for a long time? Even if the law allows it, it is not the intention of the law.
The Additional Advocate General said that he will discuss the matter with the government.
Later, the court ordered the provincial government to reconsider the determination of bakery items prices.
