Moscow/Kiev: Russia and Ukraine have released hundreds of captured soldiers after a long time under a treaty agreement.

According to a report by the AFP news agency, officials from Russia and Ukraine announced that after months, hundreds of captured soldiers from both countries have been exchanged.

The Russian Ministry of Defense and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that 200 soldiers have returned.

In a statement released on Telegram, Zelensky said that more than 200 of our soldiers and Russian civilians are back from captivity and they have also released videos of several individuals celebrating in military uniforms.

Dimitro Loubnitse, Ukraine’s human rights ombudsman, said that a total of 230 individuals, including 224 soldiers and 6 civilians, have been released, and this is the 49th round of prisoner exchanges between the two countries.

On the other hand, Russia’s Ministry of Defense said that 248 soldiers have returned under a difficult negotiation in the United Arab Emirates.

It should be noted that negotiations for the exchange of prisoners between the two countries have taken place several times after the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine in 2022, but negotiations were stalled in the last 6 months of last year.
