After the killing of three Kashmiris in custody due to violence during detention in the occupied Kashmir district of Poonch, the Indian army has removed three officers from their positions. Reports say that during the violent custody in Poonch, three Kashmiri detainees were killed, and in response, the Indian army has removed three officers including a brigadier from their positions. The ousted brigadier was the sector commander of the Rashtriya Rifles, a counter-insurgency force formed in Jammu and Kashmir in 1990. The Indian army had taken Mushtaq Hussain, Mohammad Shaukat, and Shabir Ahmed into custody during a siege in Poonch on Thursday and the bodies of all three were handed over to their families on Friday. All three civilians were arrested after an attack on Indian soldiers in the Surankote area, in which five soldiers were killed and two wounded. All three are from a tribal family known as Gujjar who traditionally live a nomadic life in the mountainous regions of Kashmir. According to Al Jazeera, the information department of the local authority in occupied Kashmir has said that legal action has been initiated in the case, but did not provide further details, and the Indian army has also said that investigations into the incident are ongoing. The Indian administration has also announced compensation and jobs for the families of the deceased.
