Islamabad: Pakistan has taken the initiative to file a case against Israel in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for the genocide of Palestinians. According to a spokesperson for the Foreign Office, Pakistan’s initiation of measures for the ICJ reflects its commitment to see the case against Israel heard in court.

The spokesperson stated that the ICJ has instructed Israel to take immediate measures to halt actions in the Gaza Strip against the Palestinians’ lineage, and to prevent any prohibited activities of genocide as per the Genocide Convention.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said, “The ICJ has also ordered Israel to take immediate and effective actions to provide essential services and humanitarian aid for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to help them cope with the undisclosed conditions of their lives.”

They added, “For the implementation of these provisional measures, an immediate and unconditional ceasefire is needed to end the current afflictions of the people of Gaza, while Israel has been engaged in military aggression and criminal acts against Palestinian people since October 7, 2023.”

In light of the ICJ’s ruling, the Foreign Office views it as a crucial step towards justice for the Palestinian people and international accountability for Israel. Pakistan demands complete and effective implementation of the ICJ’s ruling.

The Foreign Office further stated that ensuring the respect and recognition of fundamental human rights, dignity, and the distinct recognition of the Palestinian people as a unique group in accordance with the United Nations Charter, relevant UN conventions, and international laws should be maintained.

Pakistan reaffirms its unwavering support for the fair and legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people to obtain their inalienable right to self-determination, and has supported the request for the ICJ’s jurisdiction against Israel under the Genocide Convention, as supported by South Africa in 1948.
