Dr. Yasmin Rashid, the PTI-Punjab president, along with former senior provincial minister Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Senator Ijaz Chaudhry, and five others, has been granted three-day physical remand by Judge Ejaz Ahmad Buttar. They are facing charges related to an attack on the Shadman police station.

During the hearing, it was revealed by the investigation officer that Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, and Senator Ijaz Chaudhry were involved in the incident of mutiny at the police station.

New charges, including mutiny, waging war, and riots, have been added to the first information reports (FIRs), as informed by the IO.

In another related case, Judge Ejaz Ahmad Buttar also granted three-day physical remand for 68 suspects, including fashion designer Khadija Shah, former MNA Alia Hamza, and activists Sanam Javed and Tayyaba Raja, regarding the attack at Corpse Commander house.

The investigating officer informed the court that the challan (formal document) against the suspects has been handed over to the prosecution department for scrutiny.

All the May 9 cases have now added new charges under sections 121 (waging or attempting to wage a war or abetting in waging a war against Pakistan), 131 (abetting mutiny), and 146 (rioting) in the FIRs by the police.

Prior to this, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) has allowed the arrest of Imran Khan, the Chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), in cases related to the May 9 riots.

On the request of DIG investigation, the court gave permission to the police to conduct an inquiry and arrest the former prime minister in the case of the Jinnah House attack. The court was informed that Imran Khan has already been convicted under the Election Act.

It has been reported that an investigation team will be sent to Attock jail to conduct the inquiry with Imran Khan. The complete report will be submitted to the court while the arrest of PTI chairman will be delayed, as per sources.

May 9 Events

Violent clashes erupted throughout Pakistan following the arrest of former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday.

Protests were staged in both remote and major cities as party workers were agitated due to their chairman’s arrest. The provinces of Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad called upon the armed forces to ensure law and order.

PTI workers protested and attacked army installations and the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore.

It is worth mentioning that Imran Khan was arrested from his Lahore residence on August 5, following a five-year disqualification and a three-year prison term in the Toshakhana criminal case.
