The Foreign Office (FO) of Pakistan expressed its shock and condemnation on Monday regarding the comments made by an Israeli minister about dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza. Amichay Eliyahu, an ultranationalist politician and part of Netanyahu’s ruling coalition, made these remarks during an interview with Israel’s Kol Barama radio. When asked if he supported using an atomic bomb to kill everyone in Gaza, Eliyahu replied that it was “one option.” However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office suspended Eliyahu from government meetings indefinitely and described his comments as detached from reality, emphasizing Israel’s efforts to avoid harming innocent civilians in Gaza. The remarks made by Eliyahu received significant backlash from within Israel and the wider Middle East. The Arab League chief, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, stated that Eliyahu’s comments revealed that Israel possessed nuclear weapons and highlighted the racist views held against Palestinians. Saudi Arabia criticized the Israeli government for not dismissing Eliyahu immediately, deeming it a disregard for human values and standards. Jordan referred to Eliyahu’s remarks as a call for genocide and a hate crime against the Palestinians. Following the backlash, Eliyahu claimed that his atomic bomb statement was metaphorical and reassured that Israel was committed to safely recovering hostages. The FO spokesperson of Pakistan, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, expressed deep concern about the Israeli minister’s threat and interpreted it as an intention for ethnic cleansing and genocide. Baloch urged the international community to recognize the threat posed by Israeli aggression to regional peace, security, and stability.
