In the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 clash at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field first.
Sri Lanka’s World Cup 2023 campaign has been hindered by injuries to key players. However, they still have a chance to qualify for the semi-finals by winning against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
While they also need other favorable results, their immediate focus is on securing a third win in the tournament by defeating fellow Asian team Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s only victory in the World Cup so far was in their opening match against Afghanistan in Dharamsala. However, they have suffered six consecutive losses since then, dashing any hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals for Shakib Al Hasan’s side.
Nevertheless, they still have a lot to play for and will be eager to hinder Sri Lanka’s chances by securing their second win in what has been a disappointing campaign.
Bangladesh will rely on veterans Litton Das, Mahmudullah, and Shakib to contribute significantly with the bat. On the other hand, Sri Lanka will look towards players such as Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, and captain Kusal Mendis to perform well.
Spin is expected to play a crucial role in this match, with Shakib leading Bangladesh’s slow bowling attack and players like Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage likely to make an impact for Sri Lanka.
