WHO Chief, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, addressed the UN Security Council to urge for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access to Gaza. He described the dire situation in the bomb-ravaged enclave, with half of the hospitals non-operational and the health system on the brink of collapse. The overcrowding in shelters is increasing the risk of diseases, and thousands of displaced people are seeking refuge. WHO has delivered medical supplies but the scale of needs is overwhelming. Tedros also called for access to deliver aid, the release of hostages, and the restoration of essential supplies, and emphasized the need for both sides to abide by international humanitarian law.
