US media reports death of Friends actor Matthew Perry at age 54

The LA Times has reported that Matthew Perry, the beloved actor known for his role as Chandler Bing in the popular series Friends, has passed away at the age of 54. According to law enforcement sources, Perry was found dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles residence on Saturday afternoon. During his career, Perry achieved worldwide recognition for his portrayal of the sarcastic Bing in the hit NBC show, which aired for a decade from 1994 to 2004. In addition to his television success, Perry also starred in films such as “Fools Rush In” and “The Whole Nine Yards.” The actor had been candid about his battles with addiction, seeking treatment for painkiller and alcohol dependency. In his recently released memoir in 2022, titled “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” Perry shared his harrowing experience of spending five months in the hospital in 2018 due to a colon rupture, revealing that he had only a two percent chance of surviving the night.
