The United Nations labor agency, the International Labour Organization (ILO), has warned that the economic impact of the Israel-Hamas war will have long-lasting consequences for the Gaza Strip. According to the ILO, Gaza has lost 61% of its jobs since the conflict began, equivalent to 182,000 jobs. The ILO also noted that the occupied West Bank has lost an estimated 24% of its employment, equivalent to 208,000 jobs, due to the spillover effects of the war. These job losses have resulted in estimated daily income losses of $16 million. The ILO emphasized the urgent need for access to humanitarian aid for Gaza residents and stated that it is working with various partners to provide immediate assistance and support recovery efforts. Prior to the conflict, Gaza already suffered from severe economic deprivation, with high unemployment rates and a large population living below the poverty line. The recent conflict has exacerbated these issues, with shortages of essential resources worsening due to Israeli blockades and bombings.
