The defense ministry of Taiwan has reported the detection of six Chinese balloons flying over the Taiwan Strait on Sunday, with one crossing the island. This is part of a series of similar balloon sightings over the past month-and-a-half. The ministry has accused China of threatening aviation safety and engaging in psychological warfare with these balloons. The Chinese defense ministry has not yet commented on the recent incidents. The use of balloons for potential spying has become a global concern, with the recent incident involving the United States shooting down a Chinese surveillance balloon. In this latest incident, the ministry reported that six balloons crossed the sensitive median line of the strait, with only one actually crossing over the Taiwan island. The other balloons flew to the north but did not cross over land before heading east and disappearing. The median line, which used to serve as a barrier between Taiwan and China, is now regularly crossed by Chinese military aircraft and surveillance equipment. China does not recognize the existence of this median line.
