A woman and a man were reportedly shot and killed by the woman’s father and brother in an act of ‘honour’ killing in the Kolai Pallas area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohistan district. The police filed a first information report (FIR) under Sections 109, 302, and 311 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The suspects fled the scene after the crime, and the police have launched an investigation.

Similar incidents have occurred in the area in the past, including a girl being killed by her father on the orders of a jirga for social media pictures and another girl facing a decree for being in contact with a stranger over the phone. A decade ago, a video of local girls cheering for a dancing boy went viral, leading to alleged killings of the women and the boy’s brothers on the jirga’s orders. The area has captured international attention for the conservative and remote nature where several “honour killings” have been reported in recent years.
