Lahore: Sui Northern Gas Company has imposed another tax of billions of rupees on consumers. Fixed charges for gas bills have been included in the November bills. According to sources, companies have found an easy way to fulfill their obligation with Ogra and imposed another tax on consumers in the name of fixed charges.

It is said that Ogra has silently allowed the imposition of fixed charges. According to officials, protected consumers using 0.9 hectare meters of gas will pay 400 rupees in fixed charges per month. Non-protected consumers using 1.5 hectare meters of gas will pay an additional bill of 1000 rupees per month. Consumers using more than this will pay an additional fixed amount of 2000 rupees per month.

According to Sui Gas authorities, even the consumer whose usage is zero will be bound to pay 400 rupees. These monthly fixed charges have been included with the approval of the government. It is said that consumers can only challenge the additional fixed charges in the High Court. The monthly fixed tax will be imposed on 80 million consumers of the gas company. An estimated 60 to 70 billion rupees are generated annually.
