A Baloch student studying at Punjab University was arrested by police and plainclothesmen at the New Campus gate. The incident has caused protests and condemnation from human rights activists, students, and Baloch nationalists. CCTV footage circulating on social media shows Fareed Husain Baloch being confronted by two policemen and two civilian-dressed individuals as he was leaving the campus. The footage also reveals the student resisting arrest before being beaten and forcefully taken away by the policemen. PU security guards did not intervene during the incident. The Baloch Council officers went to the Garden Town Police Station to address the student’s detention. They expressed concerns that the police might falsely implicate the student. The arrest has sparked outrage on social media, with various groups and individuals condemning the abduction and emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted education. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has also expressed deep concern over the reported harassment and intimidation of Pashtun and Baloch students at Lahore universities, with some students having been forcibly disappeared. The commission called for an end to ethnic profiling and the guarantee of equal rights for all students. The Superintendent of Police (SP) operations and SP Investigation were unavailable for comment.
