During the conference, Kakar mentioned that the future of Zaka Ashraf as the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) would be determined after the World Cup. He clarified that his meeting with Afridi was merely a social one and not related to Ashraf’s tenure.

As the patron of the PCB, the Prime Minister has to decide on whether to replace or retain Ashraf by November 5, as his four-month tenure is ending on that date. The Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination has submitted a summary regarding this matter to the Prime Minister.

When asked about a possible extension for Ashraf, the Prime Minister stated that a decision would be made after the World Cup.

These comments come amidst the Pakistan team’s poor performance in the ICC World Cup in India. Additionally, there are other issues concerning player power and allegations of involvement with players’ agencies by the retired chief selector, Inzamamul Haq.

Mustafa Ramday and Zulfiqar Malik, members of the incumbent PCB set-up, have accused Ashraf of taking illegal and unconstitutional steps. Ramday raised concerns about the number of appointments made within the PCB and the failure to hold elections for the PCB chairman.

Malik alleged that Ashraf’s son was involved in PCB affairs and that the chairman misused the office of the PCB Election Commissioner for political purposes.

Kakar also commented on the announcement of the date for general elections, stating that it was finalized by the Election Commission of Pakistan. He emphasized that all political parties have the right to stage rallies within the limits of the law.

Kakar assured that the caretaker government will ensure transparent, free, and fair elections.
