The Sindh government has announced a ban on pillion riding in several cities of the province, including Karachi, to ensure the safety and security of people during processions and gatherings in the month of Rabiul Awwal. The ban will be in effect on September 28 and 29, as per the directives issued by the Sindh Home Department.
This decision comes after the provincial police chief recommended immediate measures to prevent any potential incidents and maintain law and order in the region. The ban will be enforced in the Central, East, and South Zones of Karachi, as well as in Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Hyderabad.
Under Section 144 (6) Cr.P.C., the Sindh government has imposed the temporary ban on pillion riding. However, certain categories of individuals are exempted from this restriction, including women, children below the age of 12, senior citizens, journalists, law enforcement personnel in uniform, and employees of essential services.
According to the notification issued by the Home Department, police stations are authorized to register complaints against violators under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) for the violation of Section 144 CrPC.
Ensuring public safety during religious processions and gatherings is a priority for the Sindh government. By temporarily banning pillion riding, the government aims to prevent any untoward incidents and create a peaceful environment for the observance of Rabiul Awwal festivities.
