Dr Sohail Thahim, the Judicial Magistrate in Islamabad, presided over the case where Sheikh Rashid appeared in court with his lawyer Sardar Shahbaz and others.

During the hearing, Rashid’s lawyer requested a date after Ramadan, which the court granted by extending Sheikh Rashid Ahmed’s interim bail.

The court adjourned the hearing, instructing the parties to present their arguments at the next session.

Details of the case

AML chief Sheikh Rashid was charged under three sections — 120B (criminal conspiracy), 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).

The FIR filed by the complainant PPP divisional president alleged that Sheikh Rashid attempted to defame a former president and posed a “permanent threat” to the PPP co-chairman and his family.

The FIR further claimed that through his incendiary accusations, Rashid aimed to incite conflict between the PTI and the PPP in order to disrupt the country’s peace.
