Shamshad predicts Pakistan’s AMA accounts to reach 8.5m to 20m by 2024

The finance minister stated that around 8.5 million new bank accounts have been opened under the scheme, with 38% of them being opened by women. The target is to increase the number of these accounts to 1 crore by December 2023 and 2 crore by December 2024. The minister also mentioned that through the Asset Management Account (AMA), any citizen with a Pakistani identity card can open a bank account using their mobile phone. The Alliance has provided 90 million people with digital healthcare and 18 million people with quality education and skill training opportunities. The Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) has played a leadership role in supporting the economically weaker sections and providing them with better employment opportunities. The program has been a lifeline for the economically weaker sections in Pakistan, providing cash assistance and employment support to 15 million families, which constituted 44% of the country’s population, during the COVID-19 pandemic.
