Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of Bangladesh cricket team, has urged his players to back up their words with action in order to salvage their pride in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against Pakistan at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. Bangladesh, who have lost five out of their six matches, have almost no chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.

Shakib emphasized the importance of translating their discussions and team meetings into on-field performances. He stated, “We have to show it in action and prove that talk is cheap when it doesn’t work. We will take care of it through our actions on the ground, for everyone to see. We need to change the team’s situation with our performance.”

Similar to his team’s struggles, Shakib Al Hasan has also faced difficulties in India. He received criticism for returning home last week to work with his personal batting coach. In the World Cup, he has managed to score only 61 runs and take seven wickets in the five matches he has played.

“There is a lot at stake for us. We have to win to qualify for the Champions Trophy. That’s an important target we can set at this moment,” expressed Shakib Al Hasan.

The International Cricket Council recently announced that the top seven teams, along with hosts Pakistan, will qualify for the Champions Trophy in 2025.

“We have no other option but to win, and that’s what we aim to do,” stated Shakib Al Hasan. Bangladesh currently occupies the ninth position in the ten-team World Cup table, with defending champions England at the bottom.
