Severe flooding in southern Thailand has left tens of thousands of people affected, with schools closed, roads and railways submerged, and residents trapped in their homes. The province of Narathiwat near the border with Malaysia has been hit the hardest, with some districts submerged for days. At least a dozen schools in Narathiwat and neighboring Yala have been forced to close, and footage from the region shows homes and shops inundated with water. Additionally, seven boats have sunk in the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea due to the heavy rain. The state railway company has reported track subsidence, causing trains heading south to Malaysia to stop at Yala, 100km away from the border. Authorities have issued warnings for residents to be prepared to evacuate if the situation worsens, as serious floods in the region in December last year resulted in at least three fatalities.
