Election Security Concerns: With the general elections approaching in a month, the upper house of Parliament passed a resolution on Friday to delay the polls due to security concerns. The caretaker Information Minister, Murtaza Solangi, and PML-N Senator Afnan Ullah Khan opposed the non-binding resolution, which was moved by independent Senator Dilawar Khan. Dilawar highlighted the constitutional right to vote for every citizen of Pakistan and expressed concerns about difficulties in ensuring participation in cold areas during the electoral process. He also raised concerns about recent threats to the lives of prominent politicians and spike in attacks on security forces and citizens in certain regions. Despite opposition from some members, the resolution was passed.

Some members argued that elections have been held in worse conditions in the past and questioned the need for delay, while others emphasized the current security situation and supported the resolution. The resolution urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to promptly implement the postponement and ensure all necessary arrangements are in place. The resolution was passed with the intention of facilitating the effective participation of people from all areas of Pakistan and upholding constitutional rights to political participation.
