SAPM and EU Envoy Discuss Strengthening Economic Ties and Promoting Regional Security

In a positive development, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Overseas Pakistanis, Jawad Sohrab Malik, recently held a meeting with the European Union (EU) Ambassador, Dr. Riina Kionka, to explore ways of enhancing economic ties between Pakistan and the EU. The discussions also touched on matters related to regional security, the benefits of the GSP+ program for sustainable development, and support for Overseas Pakistanis residing in the EU.

Expressing his delight, SAPM Jawad Sohrab Malik warmly welcomed EU Ambassador Dr. Riina Kionka to his residence. The meeting served as a platform for a friendly and constructive conversation about various important issues, including the economic relations between Pakistan and the EU. Both parties shared their aspirations for regional security cooperation and stability.

One key aspect highlighted during the conversation was the EU’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) program, which offers a distinctive incentive to Pakistan to promote sustainable development and good governance. This program is an important tool that can contribute to further strengthening the economic ties between Pakistan and the EU.

SAPM Jawad Sohrab Malik emphasized that there is an ongoing committed effort to develop a robust and long-term solution to address the challenges faced by Overseas Pakistanis residing in the EU. Ensuring the well-being and support of the Pakistani community abroad is a top priority for the government.

Jawad Sohrab Malik was appointed as the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) for Overseas Pakistanis in the interim cabinet led by Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar, indicative of the government’s commitment to engaging and supporting the Pakistani diaspora.
