Islamabad: The Pakistan Muslim League (Q) has announced their support for Asif Zardari in the presidential election, while the MQM has requested for a deadline for consultation.
According to details, members of the committees of the People’s Party and PML-N met with the President of Pakistan’s Association Ali Khan and requested support for Asif Ali Zardari in the presidential election.
Speaking at a press conference after the negotiations, Ali Khan said, “I welcome the delegation of the People’s Party and I welcome Issac Dar. It is an honor that they have come to my house. We fully support Asif Ali Zardari. We will vote for Zardari in Punjab and the center. Pakistan is the top priority for me. We will do what it takes to get this country out of the darkness. Pakistan is going through a tough time and people are suffering. We need to come together at this time. We must forget the issues of the elections. All major parties have come together in one province.”
He further said, “It is necessary to provide relief to the people, they are already in distress and should not be further disturbed. Opposition parties have the right to point out the mistakes of the government, but national interest should come first.”
Ali Khan also said, “We will play our part in the development and prosperity of this country. Wherever mistakes are seen, we will point them out. It is the right of opposition parties to criticize the government’s mistakes, but the country’s interest should come first.”
Yousaf Raza Gilani thanked the Pakistan People’s Party for announcing their support for Asif Zardari. I fully agree with Ali Khan’s words.
The delegation of the negotiating committee reached the residence of Chaudhry Shujaat of the Muslim League Q. After the meeting, Chaudhry Salik said, “I am grateful to the delegation of the allied parties. Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and his party are involved in the politics of reconciliation. We all have to go together, no one should pursue personal interests. We have decided to vote for Zardari.”
Yousaf Raza Gilani thanked Chaudhry Shujaat and his party. We believe in their family traditions and will work together to rescue Pakistan from crises.
The delegations of the People’s Party and PML-N met with MQM’s Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said, “We have discussed the way forward, as the election for the presidency is going on, in which the People’s Party’s Asif Zardari is a candidate and the delegation has requested our support.”
They said, “Our history of reconciliation is strong, we have always walked together. Yesterday evening, we held a meeting of the contact committees in Karachi. The contact committee will make the decision to vote for Asif Ali Zardari.”
Yousaf Raza Gilani said, “We have always walked together before. MQM had also recommended Asif Ali Zardari earlier. The demand of the time is for us to come together.”
