Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has filed another complaint with the International Criminal Court (ICC), alleging war crimes committed by the Israeli army against Palestinian journalists in Gaza. The complaint, filed on Friday in the Hague, requests an investigation into the deaths of seven Palestinian journalists killed in the besieged enclave from October 22 to December 15.
The press freedom group believes that these journalists may have been deliberately targeted and describes their deaths as intentional homicides of civilians. This is the second complaint filed by RSF, with the group confirming the deaths of 66 Palestinian journalists since the Israeli assault began on October 7.
The journalists named in the complaint include Asem Al-Barsh and Bilal Jadallah, who were killed by sniper fire and a missile attack, respectively. Additionally, Montaser Al-Sawaf and Rushdi Al Siraj were killed in Israeli air raids, and Hassouna Salim and Sari Mansour perished in a missile attack after receiving death threats.
The targeting of journalists is considered a war crime according to the Rome Statute, and RSF is urging ICC prosecutor Karim Khan to prioritize elucidating the crimes committed against journalists in Gaza and to prosecute those responsible.
