Judge Humayun Dilawar, who convicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case, has been demoted to Officer on Special Duty (O.S.D) by the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The decision was made after an investigation into the judge’s conduct and security threats he and his family received.
In a letter to the IHC Chief Justice, Dilawar highlighted the security threats he faced after the verdict was announced. He mentioned that a smear campaign was initiated against him on social media, and he received threats from individuals across the world. Due to these concerns, he requested a transfer to special courts, a judicial complex, or the high court.
The demotion order was issued by the IHC Additional Registrar on the instructions of Chief Justice Aamir Farooq. As per the order, Judge Humayun Dilawar has been asked to report to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in his new role as Officer on Special Duty (O.S.D).
Toshakhana Verdict and Arrest
In the Toshakhana case, the local court sentenced PTI Chairman Imran Khan to a three-year term and imposed a fine of Rs100,000. The judgment also resulted in his disqualification from holding any office for the next five years. Following the verdict, Imran Khan was arrested from his Zaman Park residence and subsequently transferred to the Central Jail Attock.
It is worth mentioning that Judge Humayun Dilawar departed for London after announcing the verdict in the Toshakhana case. Some judges reportedly traveled to London to attend a training workshop during this time.
