ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Railways has achieved remarkable results in improving the punctuality of trains, with the overall ratio rising from 76% to 92% in just four months. This significant improvement can be attributed to the diligent monitoring and strict measures taken by Pakistan Railways at both the divisional and ministry levels.
According to a spokesperson for Pakistan Railways, the increase in punctuality has resulted in a surge in the number of passengers, with over 20 million more passengers using the service. This growth serves as clear evidence of the department’s achievement.
The spokesperson further stated that the department has implemented various initiatives to bridge existing deficits. One such initiative is RABTA, a platform that focuses on enhancing customer facilitation.
RABTA allows customers to plan their trips, check train status, choose and purchase seats, order car rentals, meals, and refreshments, as well as book hotels. This comprehensive approach ensures a seamless experience for passengers.
Additionally, Pakistan Railways has launched a mobile application called ‘Pakrail Live’ that enables real-time tracking of trains. This feature provides convenience and peace of mind to passengers who can easily monitor the status of their journey.
Further steps have also been taken to optimize operations, such as introducing high-capacity/high-speed hopper trucks in the existing fleet to facilitate swift movement and unloading of coal. The procurement of new high-capacity/high-speed rolling stock coaches and wagons is also underway.
The department has introduced online e-ticketing through online banking apps and credit cards to make ticket purchasing more convenient for passengers. By outsourcing non-core activities, Pakistan Railways aims to enhance services and attract a wider customer base.
Furthermore, a collaboration with the People’s Republic of China is underway to transfer technology for the indigenization of Railway Rolling Stock in Pakistan Railways facilities. This partnership will contribute to the development of indigenous capabilities in railway technology.
