A protest against the abduction of members from the Hindu community by bandits in Sindh’s Kashmore has entered its fourth consecutive day. The abductees, including three members of the Hindu community and a Muslim doctor, have been held captive by the bandits.

The protest, which is supported by people from all faiths, demands the immediate and safe recovery of the hostages. The protesters are also calling for a joint operation by the army and Rangers to combat the kidnappers and bandits.

Dr. Mahar, the senior vice president of the PPP’s minority wing and a leading voice in the protest, stated that the people are fed up with these kidnappings. Although there are calls to end the protest, the hostages are still in the custody of the bandits. The Senior Superintendent of Police in Kashmore has assured the protesters that the hostages will be recovered soon.

According to Dr. Mahar, around 40 people have been kidnapped by riverine bandits in the past few months. Some have been released after payment of ransom. He also explained that members of the Hindu community are often targeted by bandits because they are seen as easy prey due to their businesses.

Dr. Lal Chand Ukrani, president of the PPP’s minority wing in Sindh, shared the same concern and stated that Hindus are easy targets for ransom. He has raised this issue with former Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah and the matter was being discussed before the end of his tenure.

In addition to the abduction of community members, three girls from the area are also reported missing. This further highlights the deteriorating law and order situation in upper Sindh, particularly in Kashmore.

Caretaker Sindh Home Minister Haris Nawaz has announced the finalization of a plan for launching an operation against bandits in the riverine areas of Jacobabad and Shikarpur. The next phase of the operation is expected to yield more fruitful results.

The ongoing protest in Kashmore is a reflection of the frustration and concerns of the people regarding the safety and security of their community members. Their demands for swift action against the kidnappers and bandits must be met to ensure the well-being of all citizens.
