A five-day vaccination campaign is underway in three phases to protect children from polio.
The first phase of the campaign will run from January 8 to January 14, 2024, with the second phase scheduled from January 15 to January 19 in North Waziristan and Bannu. The third phase will take place in South Waziristan. Over 40 million children will be vaccinated against poliovirus, with the help of over 300,000 health workers.
The Ministry of Health has confirmed the presence of poliovirus in environmental samples from Quetta district. Two samples of sewage water from Quetta tested positive for the poliovirus, according to the Ministry of Health spokesperson. The spokesperson also emphasized the strength of the polio program’s surveillance system and the government’s commitment to eradicating polio through an integrated strategy in high-risk areas.
