A policeman was killed in a violent attack at the office of the regional election commissioner in Balochistan’s Turbat on Thursday, according to police. The slain officer was identified as Namrooz and the assailants fled the scene after an exchange of fire. Law enforcement personnel are currently at the scene investigating the incident.

This comes after Balochistan Caretaker Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki stated that the government is committed to ensuring the security of election candidates and maintaining law and order in the province. Domki also visited Turbat city to review measures being taken for the transparent conduct of the general election in the region.

Last week, PPP candidate Mir Asghar Rind survived a grenade attack in Turbat. On January 15, unknown individuals targeted the Government Model High School in Kharan during a training session for polling staff. Fortunately, all officials and staff remained unharmed. Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar has constituted a seven-member committee to oversee the smooth conduct and security arrangements of the February 8 general elections.
