An unidentified group of miscreants attacked a police escort for a polio team in Mardan’s Pirsadi area on Tuesday, injuring a policeman in the process. Superintendent of Police Khalid Khan stated that the assailants, riding a motorcycle, fired at the team and fled the scene. The injured officer, identified as Zohar Qayyum, was immediately taken to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital and then referred to Mardan Medical Complex for further treatment.

Authorities have launched a search operation in the area following the incident. This attack comes just a week after a police officer was killed and three others were injured in a gunfight with terrorists in Katlang tehsil. In separate incidents in January, a polio worker was killed in Bajaur district, and several security personnel lost their lives in acts of terrorism in Bajaur and North Waziristan districts. One such incident involved an explosive device targeting police personnel escorting polio workers in Mamond tehsil.
