PML-N Senator Mushahid Hussain has advised party leader Nawaz Sharif to adopt a “forgive, forget and move on” approach regarding the accountability of former army generals. As Nawaz prepares to return to Pakistan after four years in London, party members are concerned about his demand for the strict accountability of generals and judges allegedly involved in a conspiracy against him in 2017.

Senator Hussain suggests a forward-looking approach and emphasizes the need for accountability while urging Nawaz not to repeat a “tried, tested, and failed formula.” He questions the outcome of the PML-N government’s accountability proceedings against former military dictator Pervez Musharraf, highlighting the establishment’s protection of its chiefs.

Hussain warns that if the focus remains on vengeance, it will hinder effective governance and potentially lead to a military coup. He advises Nawaz to prioritize national and public interest over personal vendettas.

Not only PML-N leaders, but also former allies such as the PPP and the Istehkham-i-Pakistan Party (IPP) caution against confronting ex-generals. They highlight the example of Musharraf, who was sentenced under Article 6 but later received medical treatment abroad. They urge Nawaz to refrain from engaging in conflicts and avoid naming specific personalities for his political agenda.

In conclusion, Senator Mushahid Hussain advises Nawaz Sharif to adopt a forward-looking approach towards accountability, emphasizing the importance of forgiveness and moving forward for the nation’s welfare.
