The MQM-P and PML-N are currently engaged in negotiations for government formation at the Centre, with several rounds of talks already conducted leading up to the National Assembly session. In the meantime, PML-N and PPP have reached a consensus on a ‘power-sharing formula’, where most constitutional posts are expected to be held by the Bilawal Bhutto-led party. Additionally, it has been reported that PML-N will secure the positions of National Assembly (NA) speaker and Governors of Sindh and Balochistan. During recent discussions, PPP has agreed to support PML-N’s governor in Sindh, while MQM-P has requested the continuation of Kamran Tessori in the proposed power-sharing agreement. Senator Khushbakht Shujaat’s name has been put forward for the position of Sindh Governor by PML-N and PPP. Earlier, MQM-P and PML-N reiterated their commitment to prioritizing the country’s interests over political gain during a meeting between MQM-P representatives and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif. The conversation centered around the current political landscape and potential avenues for collaboration. Shehbaz Sharif commended MQM-P for their positive approach, emphasizing the importance of respecting the mandate of all parties. The MQM-P delegation lauded Shehbaz Sharif’s inclusive leadership during his tenure as Prime Minister, expressing hope for overcoming challenges under his guidance. On February 19, MQM-P requested ’empowered’ local governments in Sindh to align with the coalition government led by PML-N at the Centre. The party sought PML-N’s endorsement for three constitutional amendments aimed at bolstering local governments’ authority to join the coalition.
