Anwaarul Haq Kakar, the Caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, stated during an interview with Sky News Arabia at the United Nations’ 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) in Dubai that Pakistan is a strong advocate for climate finance for developing countries. He also mentioned that the formal launch of the loss and damage fund at COP28 showed that developed countries have acknowledged the need to support countries that are not responsible for climate change. He emphasized that Pakistan has been advocating for the compensation of countries that have been severely affected by climate disasters, despite not contributing to carbon emissions.

PM Kakar also expressed support for the establishment of the loss and damage fund and emphasized the importance of utilizing the funding through multilateral organizations, such as the World Bank. He highlighted that the fund had been under discussion for nearly 30 years and gained momentum due to extensive lobbying by developing nations, including Pakistan.

In addition to discussing climate finance, PM Kakar also addressed the Israeli bombardment of Gaza and stressed the need for a two-state solution to the Palestine issue. He also highlighted the unresolved Kashmir issue and the ongoing deportation drive against unregistered immigrants in Pakistan.
