The military’s media affairs wing reported that security forces killed a terrorist during an intelligence-based operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district on Tuesday. An intense exchange of fire occurred during the operation, resulting in the death of the terrorist, Muhammad Sohail, who was actively involved in numerous terrorist activities. A sanitization operation is underway to eliminate any other terrorists in the area, and locals have expressed their support for the efforts to combat terrorism. This operation comes after security forces recently carried out successful operations in KP’s Tank and South Waziristan, resulting in the death of a highly wanted terrorist and nine militants. Pakistan has seen increased terror activities, particularly in KP and Balochistan, following the end of a ceasefire between the government and the banned militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan. In 2023, the country experienced a record six-year high in violence-related fatalities and injuries, with KP and Balochistan being the primary centers of violence.
