Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi announced that the government would be sending a letter to the editor of The Economist concerning an essay attributed to imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan. The essay, published in The Economist on Thursday, expressed Imran’s doubts about the upcoming elections and made allegations about regime change and American interference.

The government is perplexed by the publication of an article purportedly written by a jailed convict and convicted individual. Solangi emphasized the importance of ethical standards and responsible journalism, and questioned the editorial decision-making process at The Economist. He also questioned whether the publication had ever allowed jailed politicians to write ghost articles and whether they considered the legitimacy and credibility of the content.

In the controversial essay, Imran expressed concerns that the upcoming elections would be a “disaster and a farce” due to PTI being denied the right to campaign. He also criticized the current government’s performance, alleged attempts to remove him from the political landscape, and accused the courts of losing credibility. Despite his incarceration, Imran’s message has reached the public through unconventional means, such as AI-generated speeches and letters to the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Solangi’s response to the essay indicates the government’s concern about the publication of Imran’s views while in prison and the potential impact on the upcoming elections.
