Information Minister Murtaza Solangi accused former Prime Minister Imran Khan of trying to gain sympathy from the interim Afghan government with his statement about the expulsion of Afghan refugees. The caretaker government initiated a nationwide campaign to deport illegal foreign nationals in November, prompting criticism from Afghanistan. Imran’s statement, issued from Adiala Jail, criticized the treatment of Afghan refugees and emphasized the traditional and historical links between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Solangi questioned the legitimacy of Imran’s social media post and expressed concerns about his alleged attempt to gain an advantage in the upcoming elections. He also defended the deportation exercise, stating that the majority of Afghan refugees left willingly and the government would ensure that humanitarian norms were considered.
