Islamabad, Pakistan conducted a highly coordinated military operation in response to Iranian air strikes in Balochistan. The operation, codenamed “Marg Bar Sarmachar”, targeted armed groups in the Sistan-Baluchistan province of Iran. Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the operation resulted in the deaths of several terrorists. This comes after Iran launched air strikes against the Jaish al-Adl group in Panjgur city, Balochistan, prompting Pakistan to call the Iranian strikes unacceptable. Pakistan has accused Iran of providing safe havens to armed rebel groups seeking secession for Balochistan and has shared multiple dossiers with evidence of their presence and activities. Pakistan has also stated that it respects Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity but took action based on credible intelligence in pursuit of its own security and national interest. The Iranian government has not yet acknowledged the Pakistani attack, and Pakistan has taken diplomatic measures in response to the Iranian strikes. The Pakistani interim Prime Minister met with Iran’s Foreign Minister prior to the attack, and Iran has emphasized that it will not compromise on its own security, as the group has taken shelter in parts of Pakistan’s Balochistan province.
