Asim Jamil, the son of well-known Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil, tragically passed away in a town called Talamba in Punjab. Maulana Tariq Jamil shared the heartbreaking news on the social media platform X, explaining that his son’s death was accidental and had deeply saddened the family. Maulana Tariq Jamil requested prayers for his son and expressed his hope that Allah would grant him a high place in heaven.
The body is currently being transferred from the health center to the family’s home. According to a spokesperson from the Punjab police, it appears that the cause of death was a gunshot. The police have obtained CCTV footage that reportedly shows Asim shooting himself in the chest. The footage is being sent for forensic analysis. The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr Usman Anwar, has taken note of the incident and has requested a report from the Multan RPO. The IGP emphasized the importance of determining the exact cause of death based on evidence and a forensic report. The Khanewal district police officer and other senior personnel were present at the scene and have gathered evidence.
Various political figures, including National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif, and PTI Party Secretary General Omar Ayub, have extended their condolences to the grieving family. They expressed their solidarity and shared in the family’s grief over this tragic accident.
