Pakistan greenlights five development projects worth Rs10bn

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) convened on Friday and approved five development projects worth Rs10.022 billion. It also recommended four other projects worth Rs213.86 billion to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further evaluation.

Under the chairmanship of Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, the CDWP meeting included the attendance of Secretary Planning Awais Manzur Sumra, officials from the Planning Commission, federal ministries/divisions, and provincial government officials related to the projects.

The meeting discussed projects related to various sectors including Food and Agriculture, Education, Energy, Physical Planning & Housing, Science and Technology, Social Welfare, Transport and Communication, and Water Resources.

One of the projects presented was the ‘Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Security Support Project’ under the Food & Agriculture sector, with a proposed budget of Rs24,640 million. It has been forwarded to ECNEC for further approval.

Rehabilitation of schools in flood-affected areas of Balochistan was another approved project under the Education Sector, with a cost of Rs1,400 million. This project aims to restore and improve schooling opportunities for students.

The forum also recommended “Sindh school rehabilitation project under flood restoration program” worth Rs83,187.500 million to ECNEC. This project focuses on building new blocks in schools and upgrading them to secondary, middle, and higher secondary levels.

A project related to the Permanent settlement of IIOJK Refugees from 1989 onwards in the Physical Planning and Housing sector was approved at the cost of Rs3,096.500 million.

The ‘Women Inclusive Finance Development Program’ under the Social Sector, valued at Rs31,413.047 million, has been referred to ECNEC for further consideration. This program aims to support women entrepreneurs in Pakistan, with the Ministry of Finance as the executing agency and funding proposed from foreign sources.

The CDWP forum also approved a project for the Improvement & Reconditioning of Noseri Leswa By-Pass road in Muzaffarabad Neelum, AJK, worth Rs1,622.045 million.

Furthermore, the establishment of Pak Korea Testing Laboratory for PV Modules and Allied equipment (Revised) under the Science and Technology sector, with a budget of Rs1,504.955 million, was approved.

Overall, these projects cover a wide range of sectors and aim to enhance development and welfare across the country.
