The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has denounced the construction and inauguration of the ‘Ram Mandir’ on the site of the Babri Masjid in India’s Ayodhya. The OIC expressed grave concerns over the obliteration of the Babri Mosque, which had stood on the site for five centuries. The OIC’s position was in line with the Council of Foreign Ministers’ previous sessions. The Indian Prime Minister consecrated the idol of Lord Ram at the new temple, marking a landmark moment for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its campaign to align the country’s governance with its majority faith. The temple’s inauguration was criticized by Pakistan and opposition parties in India. The OIC also expressed worry over the construction and inauguration of the temple, while in Ayodhya, tens of thousands of Hindus gathered to pray at the new temple. Hindu groups and the BJP portrayed the opening as part of a Hindu renaissance after centuries of subjugation. Despite police urging people to stay away from the temple area, large crowds gathered for the inauguration.
