President Bola Tinubu has taken the decision to recall Nigeria’s ambassadors from all around the world, as announced by his spokesperson on Saturday. The aim of this decision is to ensure that foreign and domestic services provided to citizens, residents, and prospective visitors are characterized by world-class efficiency and quality.
However, Nigeria’s permanent representatives at the United Nations in New York and Geneva will be exempted from this recall due to the upcoming United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) scheduled later this month, as stated in a statement from Tinubu’s office.
Nigeria currently has a total of 109 diplomatic missions worldwide, including 76 embassies, 22 high commissions, and 11 consulates.
Tinubu, who is leading significant reforms in the country, is set to have discussions with U.S. President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the general assembly. Additionally, he will meet with leaders from Brazil, India, South Korea, and Germany during the G20 meeting also taking place later in the month.
