Netherlands face daunting 411-run target against India

Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul’s centuries help India set the Netherlands a massive target of 411 runs in the 45th ICC World Cup 2023 match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium Bengaluru.

Rohit Sharma (c) and Shubman Gill had a strong opening partnership, putting up 100 runs in just 12 overs before Gill’s impressive 51 off 32 balls.

Virat Kohli added 51 runs while Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul’s partnership contributed a total of 230 runs to the scoreboard. KL Rahul’s century in 62 balls was the fastest by an Indian in an ODI World Cup, while Shreyas Iyer reached the milestone in 84 balls.

After playing an excellent innings of 102 runs off 64 balls, KL Rahul was caught by Sybrand Engelbrecht at deep square-leg on the penultimate ball of the innings. Suryakumar Yadav added two runs on the final ball as India ended their innings at 410-4 from 50 overs.

Iyer finished unbeaten at 128 runs from 94 deliveries with 10 boundaries and five sixes. The Netherlands’ Bas de Leede took two wickets while Paul van Meekeren and Roelof van der Merwe grabbed one each.

This is India’s fourth-highest ODI total and their second-highest in the ODI World Cup. Their highest ODI total is 418-5 against West Indies, while they scored 413-5 against Bermuda in 2007.

This marked the fourth instance in ODI cricket where five batters from the same team crossed the 50-run mark in an innings and the first time in a World Cup game.
