The National Security Committee (NSC) will hold an emergency meeting today due to increased tensions between Pakistan and Iran. Iran launched attacks in Pakistan targeting what it described as bases for the militant group Jaish al-Adl in Panjgur, leading to condemnation from Islamabad and downgrading of diplomatic ties. Pakistan later struck “hideouts used by terrorist organisations” in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan province. The attacks have raised concerns about regional stability amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Prime Minister Kakar, currently at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland, will chair the NSC meeting, which aims to review national security in the aftermath of these incidents. The ISPR stated that the targeted hideouts in Iran were used by notorious terrorists, and emphasized readiness to ensure the safety of Pakistan’s citizens. The Foreign Office issued a statement stressing that the sole objective of Pakistan’s actions was to safeguard its own security and national interest. It emphasized respect for Iran’s sovereignty and a commitment to dialogue and cooperation in confronting common challenges, including terrorism.
