A person was fatally injured and five others, including a police officer, were wounded in multiple attacks across Balochistan on Thursday, according to the police. The incidents occurred just before a high-level meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to address the worsening law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan ahead of the Feb 8 elections.
One of the incidents involved explosives being planted on the footpath of the CPEC road, resulting in a damaged electricity pole. Another attack targeted the Shalkot police station in Quetta, injuring an additional superintendent. In a separate incident in Jaffarabad district, three individuals were wounded in a grenade attack on a parked truck in Dera Allahyar town.
There was also a grenade attack near the PML-N’s election office on Qambrani Road in Quetta, although no casualties were reported. The police had secured the area in response to the attack.
The previous day, a political party leader was killed and eight others, including political workers and security officials, were injured in separate attacks on election offices and residences of political party candidates in Balochistan.
