Mohammad Hafeez, a former cricketer and one of Pakistan’s finest all-rounders, was appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as a member of its technical committee for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. However, just before the announcement of the Pakistan squad for the tournament, Hafeez resigned from his position. Let’s take a look at the reasons behind his decision.
According to reports, Hafeez and former captain Misbah-ul-Haq had made recommendations regarding the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which were overlooked by the management. This became a point of contention for Hafeez, leading to his departure from the committee.
Hafeez had suggested including all-rounder Imad Wasim in the World Cup squad, but it seems his suggestion was not considered. Another recommendation he made was to remove Shadab Khan from the position of Vice Captain in order to relieve some pressure from him. However, captain Babar Azam insisted on keeping Khan in the role.
Mohammad Hafeez made his international debut in 2003 and represented Pakistan in 392 matches across Test, ODI, and T20I formats. He amassed 12,780 international runs, including 21 centuries and 64 fifties, and also took 253 wickets as an off-spinner.
In addition to his international career, Hafeez has also played in various domestic and overseas franchise competitions. He was a key contributor to Pakistan’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017 held in England.
It is worth mentioning that Mohammad Hafeez expressed his gratitude to Zaka Ashraf, who gave him the opportunity to serve as an honorary member of the Pakistan cricket technical committee. He also stated that he remains available to provide his honest suggestions for the betterment of Pakistan cricket whenever needed.
Despite his resignation from the PCB committee, Mohammad Hafeez’s commitment to Pakistan cricket and his desire to contribute remain strong.
