Mattel, a renowned toy company, is embarking on a new film project based on their popular animated series ‘Bob the Builder.’ The movie stars Anthony Ramos as the voice of the main character and is set in Puerto Rico, where he takes on a major construction job and learns about Caribbean-Latin culture. The story is being developed by Colombian-American writer Felipe Vargas in collaboration with the animation studio ShadowMachine. This project is part of Mattel’s expansion into film and television, following the success of the ‘Barbie’ movie. Other upcoming projects include a Netflix series based on ‘He-Man’ and a live-action ‘Polly Pocket’ film directed by Lena Dunham. Mattel Films also has plans for projects based on other popular toy lines. The ‘Bob the Builder’ movie is based on the early 2000’s British animated series of the same name and is part of Mattel’s acquisition of Hit Entertainment in 2011. President of Mattel Films, Robbie Brenner, expressed hope that the project would introduce the character to new audiences.
