A 28-year-old man in Toronto has been arrested in connection with three hate-motivated incidents, including an attack at the Toronto Islamic Centre early this morning. Chandler Marshall is facing numerous charges for incidents that involved a taxi driver, a woman wearing a hijab, and worshippers at a Toronto mosque. In the most recent attack, Marshall allegedly threw a rock at the mosque’s congregants and yelled derogatory slurs at them before attacking one of the congregants with a bike chain. The National Council of Canadian Muslims described the incidents as violent and Islamophobic, while the Toronto Islamic Centre emphasized that they will not be intimidated. Marshall is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow also condemned the incidents, stating that “Islamophobia and violence” are unacceptable.
