The Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) has strongly denounced the ongoing “malicious campaign” circulating on social media against Chief Justice Aamer Farooq of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

In a statement issued by IHCBA president Naveed Malik, it was mentioned that the bar condemns the ongoing malicious campaign without specifically naming anyone responsible for it.

The Ministry of Law, according to PPI, has held the PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) party responsible for the campaign.

Recently, former Prime Minister Imran Khan accused Justice Farooq of trying to keep him behind bars to prevent him from contesting general elections. Justice Farooq has been hearing Imran Khan’s appeal against the trial court’s decision in the Toshakhana case.

The IHCBA statement highlighted that Justice Farooq is well-known for his commitment to honesty and competence, as evident through his impartial and merit-based judgments.

The statement further emphasized that the relentless campaign to tarnish the chief justice’s reputation is a deliberate and malevolent effort to undermine a distinguished judge and erode public trust in the judiciary.

The bar association expressed its determination to prevent such evil intentions from succeeding at any cost, calling upon the authorities to take prompt and decisive action against those responsible for the malicious propaganda.

The IHCBA stated that it is imperative to uncover and address the true motives and extent of the disinformation efforts, holding the instigators accountable in a court of law.

It is important to note that the former prime minister had filed a petition before the Supreme Court, requesting the transfer of all his cases in the IHC to provincial high courts.

In addition, the Ministry of Law condemned the campaign against the IHC chief justice, attributing responsibility to the PTI party. The ministry urged political parties to refrain from attacking state institutions, according to PPI.
